thank you for looking Nancy-i've been having a great time with these. I made a blank book sometime ago and am filling it now with collages. I tried to make them 'simple' which I'm not really sure why I feel like I have to do that, but my last ones I made last night are hopelessly chaotic and out of control. somehow I feel that makes them 'bad' wonder where that comes from? From one chaotician to another do you feel that way?
Oh yes, I sometimes feel that way too--almost apologetic for disorder--even though (1) disorder can be especially interesting, and (2) the art can't be total chaos if it's coming from the mind of an at least half sane person, so it says something and inherently has meaning. (Actually all art does, doesn't it.)
My little painted minimals lately give me a rest from my usual journey, and experiments like that and your series of fakes (which are way more interesting!) can ultimately expand our usual paths in ways we might not be able to know.
These collages of yours, I can see that they're a bit more stylized than you usually work, but to me they still have plenty of layered depth and mystery. They're not even close to being the opposite of chaos. I love the unexpected shapes they take, and the contrasting values in them really make them sing.
I guess I'm feeling like pure trashpo isn't 'fine art' enough so i go between grungy in your face trashpo to trying to be more aesthetically minded with touches of trash, if any I like making both and yes, I'm trying to push myself and it's weird using paint again--fun but very messy!xo
